Boomer’s Story | A Senior Dog Who Became an Anchor
Boomer’s Story: The Beginning of ANCHOR
What story would your senior dog tell?
It’s a question we’ve been sitting with more and more lately as we meet the families who have stepped into ANCHOR. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned already, it’s this:
No two stories are the same.
But every single one matters.
Some make you smile.
Some ask you to slow down and really listen.
And some stay with you long after they’ve been told.
Boomer’s story is one of those.
Meet Boomer
Boomer was the very first ANCHOR session.
The first dog we photographed.
The first story we completed.
The first where everything this project was meant to be began to take shape.
He was found on the Seattle Humane website, and for his mom, it only took one look.
“Boomer is my soul dog.”
And just like that, his story and hers became intertwined.
A Life Chosen, A Life Fought For
What followed wasn’t simple.
Within the first month of bringing Boomer home, his mom learned he was diabetic. Not long after, cataracts developed. Suddenly, this new beginning came with decisions, uncertainty, and a steep learning curve.
But she chose him fully.
She learned what he needed.
She showed up for him every day.
She faced the unknown and moved forward anyway.
She chose to give him the life he deserved.
And through it all, Boomer never wavered.
The Session
During his ANCHOR session, there was no sign of everything his body had carried.
He moved with presence.
With softness.
With quiet trust.
There was no hesitation in him.
Only connection.
And what stayed with us most wasn’t just who Boomer is, but who his person chose to be for him.
Because this kind of love does not happen by accident. It is built, moment by moment, through choice, care, and devotion.
What ANCHOR Really Holds
ANCHOR was created to honor senior dogs.
But what we’re beginning to understand is that it is just as much about the people who love them.
The ones who step in.
The ones who learn.
The ones who stay.
The ones who choose presence, even when time feels uncertain.
Because these dogs are not just aging.
They are living entire lifetimes beside us.
They are there through moves, marriages, heartbreak, and healing.
They grow gray next to us.
They quietly hold us steady through seasons of life we never expected.
They become our anchors.
And Boomer is the beginning of that story.
Honoring a Life Like His
As his mom shared,
“I think it is important to honor our senior dogs. We don’t get nearly enough time with them and Boomer has shown so much resilience throughout his life.”
That is exactly what ANCHOR was made to do.
To see them.
To honor them.
To hold onto what they have given us.
A Project That Is Becoming Something More
What started as a photography project is already becoming something much deeper.
Because of the families who have stepped forward, ANCHOR has already raised over $700 for The Grey Muzzle Organization through participant registrations alone.
But beyond that, it has become a collection of stories.
Stories of dogs who have lived, endured, loved, and stayed.
Stories that deserve to be remembered.
Share Your Dog’s Story
ANCHOR is an ongoing project, and we will continue accepting applications as we build this collection of stories.
Each participant is chosen not just for their dog, but for the story they carry and the legacy they want to preserve.
If you share your life with a senior dog whose story deserves to be honored, we would love to hear it.

Thank you to every family who has already trusted us with their story.
It is an honor to create something that will live on long after these moments pass.
And Boomer will always be where it began.
